Academia broadly fails and pushes out sick and disabled students, so in an attempt to reclaim some of these resources for dynamically-disabled, chronically ill, and medicalized bodyminds, I am offering free editing services for sick and disabled students struggling with the systemic ableism in higher education.
Unfortunately, the demand for these services is high, and I cannot afford to take on every client who needs support. While I have been offering these services informally in the past, I want to formalize this structure to make it clear how you can support my free services for sick and disabled students.
I offer both paid and free editing services.
Paid services operate on a sliding scale.
Clients may choose to pay-it-forward by paying on the higher end of the sliding scale (more info here) OR by making a one-time donation via Venmo (at) jessericeevans
Jennifer Patterson, founder of Corpus Ritual, describes her pay-it-forward program as follows:
“What’s Pay It Forward? For those of you with ample resources, or those of you with a desire to support sliding scale and donation-based community care to reach people who currently can’t financially access it, this is a chance to donate in support of this continued work.”
Corpus Ritual – Pay it Forward
Free editing is available for sick and disabled students working on writing assignments in any discipline struggling with ableist faculty, fluctuating capacity, and strict deadlines. I do not, and never will, require clients to disclose medical information, specific diagnoses, or “accommodations” materials.
With continued community support, I would love to expand this effort to include more editors in order to serve other clients marginalized by higher education, especially Black and brown, Indigenous, trans feminine, and first-generation students.

Sliding Scale Information
For editing services, my sliding scale rate is $65/hour – $125/hour. This reflects the industry standard for editors with my level of education and experience. You can learn more about my teaching and consulting background here on my site.
In order to accurately gauge where you fall on the sliding scale, please review the resources below.
Alexis J. Cunningfolk of Worts & Cunning Apothecary developed “The Green Bottle” tool to assess financial privilege and determine your sliding-scale rate, which Cunningfolk explains further in The Sliding Scale: A Tool for Economic Justice (worth a read!).
